Transportation to the venue

Vilnius airport is 7 km, or 15 minutes drive by car from the centre of Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. It‘s about 30 km from Vilnius to Trakai. Take a bus or a taxi from Vilnius to Trakai.

Kaunas airport is situated 10 kilometers off the Kaunas city, and it‘s about 85 km from Kaunas to Trakai. Take a bus Kaunas-Vilnius, and then Vilnius-Trakai.

The registration will take place on 26 August 2019 from 10:00 till 11:00.  The programme starts at 11:00. Therefore you are expected to arrive on time to participate in the whole programme!

Lithuania is a Schengen member state. Anyone entering Lithuania from within Schengen area needs to have a valid passport or other official document issued for travel purposes.
For information about travel requirements to Lithuania from outside of the Schengen area, please contact your nearest Lithuanian Embassy of Consulate or check the information at Ministry of foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

If you need a visa, you have to inform us, and upon your final registration, we will issue an official letter of acceptance which will help you to obtain a valid visa. PhD Summer School cannot guarantee that you will receive a visa, and cannot refund the participant fee should your visa application be denied.

Registration will be required for all PhD Summer School participants and accompanying persons. The accompanying person registration fee is 130 euros and will cover the welcome coffee, welcome dinner, lunches, Trakai City walking tour,  and Visit to Trakai Castle Museum, as scheduled. Accompanying person cannot attend the lectures.

This PhD Summer School is a full-time activity. Each course consists of about 8 academic hours of academic activities.

Unfortunately, the dates for the school are fixed and participants must undergo the full programme without exception.

Doctoral students usually can apply to their scholarship organization or research council for a grant to cover the costs of attending this event. Some universities or their departments, doctoral programs, etc. may provide small-scale grants for attending training. Research projects funded through third party funds may also include a budget to cover members’ training needs. Please address your research council, local mentor, supervisor or research-training group for more information.

During the PhD Summer School, you are welcome to use wireless internet, which is available at the event centre. Participants of the PhD Summer School will receive login information on the first day of their arrival.
Students are welcome to bring their own laptop, etc.

When participants cancel their registration or when they do not pay the participation fee on time, the vacancies for other participants become available. We will inform you as soon as a place becomes available and expect you to respond quickly to our offer.

Summers in Lithuania are the warmest in July and August, when average maximums are 21°C and minimums are 13°C.

Should you have any special dietary needs, please make sure you let us know upon registration.

At the time of application letters of reference are not required.  We will contact the supervisor(s) of shortlisted candidates if necessary.

You will have to send a document certifying that you are a doctoral student to phd@ktu.lt upon request.
